1. Controller and contact

This policy explains how the Silverbrookatelier website uses cookies, local storage and similar storage or access technologies under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and relevant changes introduced by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.

2. What these technologies are

Cookies are small text files stored by a browser. Local storage is a browser feature that can retain information on a device without sending it automatically with every page request. Similar technologies may include pixels, scripts, tags, device identifiers, link decoration and fingerprinting. PECR rules may apply whenever information is stored on or accessed from a user's terminal equipment, not only when a traditional cookie is used.

3. Technologies currently used

Essential consent record

The site uses local storage under the key silverbrookatelier-cookie-preferences to remember whether you accepted all optional categories, rejected non-essential storage or saved individual choices. This prevents the banner from reappearing on every page. It stores category choices and a timestamp, not your name, email address or rental-enquiry content.

This storage is treated as essential because it is necessary to remember and apply the privacy choice you requested. It is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Optional categories

The banner contains controls for preference and analytics storage. No third-party analytics, advertising pixel or behavioural-profiling technology is currently loaded by this static website. Selecting an optional category records the preference only; a future optional service must not be activated unless it is described transparently and the necessary consent or lawful exception applies.

4. Categories

• Strictly necessary: required for a service requested by the user, security, network transmission or remembering a privacy choice. These technologies cannot always be switched off through the banner.
• Preferences: may remember optional language, layout or interaction choices. They should remain disabled until the user makes an affirmative choice where consent is required.
• Analytics: may help measure visits and performance. Unless an applicable statutory exception clearly covers a specific implementation, analytics storage or access will require consent.
• Marketing: may support advertising, profiling or cross-site measurement. The current website does not load marketing technologies.

5. Consent and exceptions

Where consent is required, it must be freely given, specific, informed and indicated by a clear affirmative action. Rejecting non-essential technologies must be available as readily as accepting them. Non-essential storage must not be placed before consent.

UK law includes limited exceptions for technologies that are strictly necessary for transmission or for a service explicitly requested by the user, and may include other narrowly defined exceptions introduced by legislation. We assess each technology by purpose and operation rather than assuming an exception applies to an entire category.

6. Managing choices

You can use the banner to accept all, reject non-essential storage or manage categories. You can also remove site data using browser settings. If you delete the consent record, use private browsing, change browser or device, or block local storage, the banner may appear again.

Browser controls vary. Blocking all storage may affect site functions that rely on essential preferences. Because the current site does not load third-party analytics or advertising services, no separate third-party opt-out link is necessary.

7. Browser and device controls

Most browsers allow you to view, block or delete cookies and site data. The location and wording of these controls differ between browsers and versions. Controls may be available under privacy, security, site permissions, storage or browsing-data settings. Mobile operating systems and in-app browsers may provide additional controls. You should consult the help material supplied with your browser or device for the current procedure.

Deleting site data removes the consent record stored by this website. The banner will therefore appear again on a later visit. Blocking all cookies or local storage may prevent the website from remembering a rejection or saved preference. Browser settings operate independently from the controls on this site and may override them. Settings on one browser, profile or device do not normally carry across to another.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals are not implemented consistently across all browsers and services. The current website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking technologies. Where a recognised browser signal becomes legally binding or technically relevant to a future feature, we will assess and honour it as required by applicable law.

8. Consent records and accountability

When you save a choice, the site records the selected categories and the date and time of that choice in local storage on your own device. This record helps the interface apply your decision and demonstrates that the site presented a genuine choice. It is not transmitted to Silverbrookatelier by the current static implementation and is not combined with rental-enquiry information.

If optional analytics or preference technologies are introduced in the future, we will maintain appropriate records of the consent mechanism, the information shown at the time, the categories selected and the relevant version of this policy. Consent may be withdrawn at any time with effect for future storage or access. Withdrawal does not make earlier processing unlawful where it was validly based on consent at the time.

We periodically review whether a technology remains necessary, whether its purpose has changed and whether a less intrusive method is available. A technology will not be treated as strictly necessary merely because it is convenient, useful for general business purposes or included by default in a third-party product.

9. Third-party content and future integrations

The current website does not embed third-party maps, video players, social-media widgets, advertising networks or remote analytics scripts. Images, fonts, styles, scripts and icons are served from the same local project. As a result, visiting a page does not intentionally cause those external providers to place cookies or receive a request from your browser.

A future feature may require a separate provider, for example an online booking platform, payment service, fraud-prevention tool or embedded map. Before enabling such a feature, we will assess its purpose, data flows, storage duration, recipients, international transfers and consent requirements. Where non-essential access or storage is involved, the feature will remain disabled until the required choice has been obtained.

Links that take you to another website are governed by that website’s own cookie and privacy practices after you leave Silverbrookatelier. We do not control storage placed directly by an independent external website. This site currently uses internal links for its principal navigation and legal information.

10. Security, transfers and service providers

The essential consent record is retained in the browser and contains category choices rather than identity details. We nevertheless design the mechanism to avoid unnecessary data, use predictable keys and prevent optional categories from being treated as accepted by default. The website does not use the consent record to build a profile or make decisions about rental eligibility.

If a future service provider processes cookie-derived information for us, it will be selected under appropriate contractual, confidentiality and security requirements. Where information is transferred outside the United Kingdom, we will use an applicable adequacy regulation, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to approved standard contractual clauses, or another lawful safeguard, together with any required risk assessment.

No internet service can be guaranteed completely secure. We will respond to relevant incidents in accordance with our data-protection obligations and will update this policy where a change to the technology materially affects users. 11. Retention and expiry

The essential consent record remains until it is deleted through browser controls, replaced by a later choice, or removed during a periodic consent refresh. We may configure a future expiry period if legal guidance or site functionality requires it. Any future optional technology will have a stated duration proportionate to its purpose.

12. Personal information and your rights

13. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy before introducing a materially different storage or access technology. The policy will identify the provider, purpose, category, duration, data involved and whether information is shared or transferred internationally. Material changes may cause the banner to be displayed again so that a fresh choice can be made.
